Sheep wool pellets

The transformation of sheep wool into wool pellets - wool granules is an innovative and circular solution to a growing waste problem in the sheep sector. Where lower-quality sheep wool used to be considered waste, pelletizing wool offers a sustainable way out that fits the principles of circular agriculture, soil improvement and the biobased economy. BreatHing - Zelf pellets maken has the necessary expertise in making pellets from sheep wool and has the special equipment . Agriculture : Soil improvement in arable farming, pastures and organic crops

Potting soil industry : Addition to potting soil for water buffering and nutrition

Green roofs : Water buffer and nutrition for sedum roofs

Tree planting : Biostimulant for young trees, proven higher survival rates

Insulation : Wool pellets or wool granules can also be used as insulation material

Slug deterrent : Wool forms a physical barrier against slugs

Applications for wool pellets

Benefits of wool pellets

High absorption capacity : wool pellets can hold up to 350% of their own weight in water.

Slow breakdown : keratin in wool is slowly broken down by soil organisms, which ensures long-lasting effect as fertilizer (6-8 months)

Rich in nutrients : contains on average 10-12% nitrogen, 1-1.5% phosphate, 4-5% potassium and 2-4% sulfur

Hypoallergenic and mold-resistant : Wool is naturally resistant to mold and rarely causes allergies (no danger to children or pets)

Benefits of wool pellets

Shredding wool for wool pellets

Shredding sheep wool means that the long, resilient wool fibers are mechanically pulled open, shortened and loosened so that they become suitable for further processing in a pellet press. Special equipment is required for this, because ordinary hammer mills get clogged due to the elasticity and fiber length of wool. BreatHing has 2 models of special wool shredders (5.5 kW and 15 kW) to shred the wool.

Pellet press for wool pellets

Once the wool has been processed into a homogeneous mass, it can be pressed in any type of pellet press, from small to large. For a pellet line we provide special pellet presses with a low-speed motor and larger die for optimization. The produced wool pellets can optionally be sieved and cooled.
